Featured Adoptable: PJ

Meet handsome PJ! This sweet golden retriever boy is located in Cleveland, Ohio, with the  Golden Retrievers In Need (G.R.I.N.) Rescue. PJ’s story is quite sad, as his owner passed away. He is currently being fostered, but is looking for a place to call his new forever home. PJ is neutered and up-to-date on veterinary care.

Smiling Wicca is our Tuesday feature in “Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week”. It’s hard to resist the smiling face of this senior Australian Blue Heeler! Wicca is up-to-date on veterinary care and is currently available for adoption at Pet Adoption Alternative in Warren, Michigan (PAAW).

Wicca is eight years old and deaf. She loves to play ball and gets along with other dogs and cats, too! She also knows some hand signals. Wicca is microchipped, and her adoption fee is $150. To meet Wicca for adoption, you can fill out an adoption application at PAAW’s website.

Featured Adoptable: Linus

Meet Linus! He’s already a pretty lucky guy, as he was rescued from a kill shelter in Iowa hours before he was scheduled for euthanasia. Linus is featured for “Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week“, because he is deaf and will need someone who can make time to learn about how to communicate with him.

Here’s the stats on Linus from his Petfinder.com page:

  • Name: Linus
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 1-2 years
  • Dog friendly: Only female dogs (and not small dogs)
  • Cat friendly: No
  • Kid friendly: Yes (but not with children smaller than he is)

He is an American Bulldog and Boxer mix located at Secondhand Hounds in Edina, Minnesota, and needs an adopter who can handle his energy and behavior issues. According to his foster family, Linus likes to destroy toys, has food aggression with other dogs, and knows how to open doors to kennels, as well as screen doors. You can read the full story from his foster family on Linus’ Petfinder page.

Linus really needs a special home that can help to train him and rehabilitate him, and make sure he doesn’t end up at another kill shelter. He needs a home with an open mind and structure that can help him realize there are boundaries. He is young, so there is hope that he is not already set in his ways, and there is still time for him to mature.

Featured Adoptable: Edna

Meet Edna! This sweetie is available for adoption in South Bend, Indiana, at the Heartland Small Animal Rescue. Edna was neglected by her previous owner (who was formally charged), and ended up at a high-kill shelter. Despite this, she is well-behaved and loving. Edna gets along well with other dogs, and is still a little confused by cats, but interested in them. According to her foster home, Edna loves people and is potty trained.

Edna’s adoption fee is $200. To adopt Edna, contact Mandy at HSAR at 574-633-4611 or dogs@heartlandsmallanimalrescue.org.

Shelter of the Week: Mid-Atlantic Samoyed Rescue

Dutch, an adoptable Samoyed at MASR

Shelter of the Week highlights animal shelters and rescues around the United States and the work they are doing in the rescue community. Want to be featured? Contact us at coldnoseschronicle [at] gmail.com with ‘Shelter of the Week’ in the heading. To see all of our featured shelters, click here.

If you love Samoyeds, you may want to check out the work done by the Mid-Atlantic Samoyed Rescue! This volunteer group covers Maryland, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, but will help out any Samoyed that is in need. Here is part of their mission, as seen on the MASR website:

We are a non profit group of volunteers who hate the idea of even one adoptable Samoyed being euthanized at a shelter, or running loose in the street, or chained outside, ignored and alone or… So, we have banded together to save those that we can. We take them in, provide veterinary care, foster care, training and TLC until an appropriate adoptive home can be found.

You can also find a donation option through Paypal if you are interested in giving a donation. If you are interested in adopting a Samoyed, check out their available dogs, or the library of information that MASR has regarding the breed.

To adopt a Samoyed, an application must be filled out, and the price is $250, unless care exceeds that amount; however, the adoption fee will not be over $350.

Another way to support MASR is by shopping in the store on their website, and by liking their Facebook page!

Cody, a dalmatian/pit bull mix is up for adoption in Liverpool, New York at the Humane Association of CNY, Inc. Cody has been at the shelter for awhile, because his family moved and left him behind. His unique coloring and two different color eyes are just part of the charm on this handsome fella!

He likes to play with dogs, but hasn’t been tested out with cats. Cody was also trained so well to not leave the yard that he needs a little extra coaxing to go out on the grass.

If you are interested in Cody, you can contact the shelter at 315-457-8762, or visit the shelter’s website.
