If you love Samoyeds, you may want to check out the work done by the Mid-Atlantic Samoyed Rescue! This volunteer group covers Maryland, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania, but will help out any Samoyed that is in need. Here is part of their mission, as seen on the MASR website:

We are a non profit group of volunteers who hate the idea of even one adoptable Samoyed being euthanized at a shelter, or running loose in the street, or chained outside, ignored and alone or… So, we have banded together to save those that we can. We take them in, provide veterinary care, foster care, training and TLC until an appropriate adoptive home can be found.

You can also find a donation option through Paypal if you are interested in giving a donation. If you are interested in adopting a Samoyed, check out their available dogs, or the library of information that MASR has regarding the breed.

To adopt a Samoyed, an application must be filled out, and the price is $250, unless care exceeds that amount; however, the adoption fee will not be over $350.

Another way to support MASR is by shopping in the store on their website, and by liking their Facebook page!

Save A Mom Pregnant Dog Rescue is a no-kill rescue that specializes in saving pregnant dogs and their puppies that have been mostly dumped at pounds and left behind. SAMPDR is a non-profit organization and relies on donations and adoption fees to fund their rescue, which includes all veterinary work and special needs situations. One goal of the rescue is to spay or neuter all pets that are adopted out, and to also provide loving forever homes.

SAMPDR was founded in 2005, when Denise Jones helped a dog named Sammie, who was found running around a park while pregnant. She was also severely abused and did not trust people, and Jones’ experience with Sammie led her to start the rescue. Today, the rescue is run out of Jones’ home in East Sparta, Ohio.

To donate to Save A Mom Pregnant Dog Rescue, visit their about page to make a donation through Paypal. On the same page, they have a list of items that is needed via donation, including blankets and playpens.

Animal Ark No-Kill Shelter is located in Hastings, Minnesota, and they are our latest Shelter of the Week!

Located thirty minutes from the Twin Cities, Animal Ark is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1977. Although it runs on a small amount of funds, Animal Ark has an incredible facility that is quite spacious and luxurious for the pets that enter it. Rabbits stay in fancy suites tailored to their needs, while cats lounge around on cat trees in their open kitty apartments that include a view of the great outdoors. Dogs have perks too, according to Animal Ark’s website:

Each dog is provided with its own, soft, raised bed with blankets, chew toys and treats. Large, outdoor play yards are provided for our pooches. Three times each day, dogs are taken out for potty breaks and play with other dogs. In the heat of summer, kiddy pools and water misting systems provide the dogs with cool comfort. Additionally, dogs are walked each day by a group of dedicated volunteers.

It’s wonderful that these animals have such a comfortable place to stay!

Animal Ark is Minnesota’s largest no-kill shelter, and their website includes many informative articles, a virtual tour of the shelter, and contact information to inquire about adoptions. You also keep up-to-date with Animal Ark happenings by visiting their Facebook page.

This week’s Shelter of the Week is Heartland Golden Retriever Rescue from Knoxville, Tennessee. Heartland was established in August of 1998, and since then has helped over 600 dogs. This small group of volunteers evaluates dogs, provides medical care, and utilizes fosters and boarding kennels to house the dogs. This non-profit has a limited budget, and raises money through donations, fundraisers, and adoption fees (which often don’t cover the cost of the dog’s care). Thanks to their hard work and dedication, HGRR has made connections all over the United States, particularly in the New England region.

If you are interested in golden retrievers, be sure to check out this driven rescue and view their adoptable dogs. You can also help by donating or volunteering. Adopting or volunteering requires that you fill out an application, which is available on Heartland’s website. You can also check out the work they do on their Facebook page!

Don’t forget to stop at the Heartland website. It is incredibly organized and full of resources, including information about the breed.
