Determine If Your Pet Food Has Been Recalled

Diamond Pet Foods has recalled several brands and varieties of food due to a possible salmonella contamination. Salmonella is not limited to just pets consuming the food, but also the humans who handle it. According to Diamond, the following states and Canada are impacted by the recall:

Alabama
Florida
Georgia
Indiana
Kentucky
Massachusetts
Maryland
Michigan
Mississippi
New York
North Carolina
Ohio
Pennsylvania
South Carolina
Tennessee
Virginia

Regions impacted by the recall

Here’s how to determine if your variety has been affected by the recall, according to Diamond:

To determine if your pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production codes on the back of bags. Any production codes that have a number “2” or a “3” in the 9th or 10th digit and an “X” in the 11th digit in the production code should be discarded. The best before dates are December 9, 2012, through April 7, 2013.

The recall recently spread to Chicken Soup for the Soul Adult Light Formula dog food, as well as some varieties of Taste of the Wild. To determine if your batch is in the recall, use the same steps listed above.
