If you’re on Pinterest, you may have seen this image circulating! This “ice lick” is a wonderful idea from the folks at Fetch Dog. This clever ice lick is a mix of water and chicken broth with toys added to the mix to keep the pup occupied. This is a wonderful activity for dogs that always need something to do! Here’s what Fetch Dog writer Elizabeth Edwardsen has to say about how she made the activity:
Setting the Ice Lick up was easy. I filled the bucket with water (you can use chicken broth, too) and some of her toys. I also threw a few carrots in before putting it in the freezer It took a day to freeze solid. Then I stuck the Ice Lick’s post in the ground, upended the bucket, which also contained a section of post, and we were in business. Veronica licked away, waiting for toys to appear, cooling off in the process.
Edwardsen suggests adding different toys to the mix each time to keep the dog interested.

Please make sure to use chicken brother without any onion. It is very bad for dogs and is often in the broth

even if the broth has onion powder in it. it’s not a big deal. diluted into a few gallons of water and most of it will melt away anyhow…there is no way it will harm your animal. your dog could likely drink the broth undiluted and there still wouldn’t be enough onion to do any damage.
While you are right that it is rather diluted, it is still there. From my reading, the damage accumulates and onion, in any form, causes it.
If it is easy enough to make this with a brother that doesn’t have onions in it, then why not add dog poison? There are a lot of things for both humans and animals where it isn’t good for you but a little won’t kill you. However, there seems to be a lot of risk and very little reward here
